Background information
The event leading up to the Apollo 11 mission was the Cold War. This was an event where there were pressures between two countries. They consist of the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. These two countries had power to destroy the world with nuclear strikes. Both never actually fought each other but they had wars where they supported a certain side. Some of the most tension filled moments includes the Cuban Missile Crisis, Korean War, and the Vietnam War. In reality the Cold War was a war between the communist party and the democratic party. It was an all out arms race to see who is the more powerful and better country. After knowing that the US has to be in front of the Soviets, JFK and Congress decided that it would be in the world's best interest for the United States to the to be ahead of the race since nobody wants to live somewhere where it's a communism area. After the Space Race started and the USSR was ahead, the US had to find a way to get back at them. This whole process led up to the landing on the moon.
