Political Impact
The political impact of the Apollo 11 mission was huge to the United States because it helped them gain an edge in the Cold War. At first the Soviets were not ahead but then they created the ballistic missile which were much more effective than the planes that dropped bombs, which is what the US were good at. They used the same missile to help them get to the moon with some modifications. However by putting the man on the moon the United States proved that they were indeed much more superior than the Soviets. Many would say that the man on the moon was more political than because of popular support since only about 50 percent of the population supported to go to the moon. When John F. Kennedy announced that they were going to the moon he focused more on the Soviets than on the people. This is because there was great amounts of tension between these to countries that had the fire power to tear the world down. He also said if they failed that would keep on trying because it was an absolute must to get ahead of the Soviets. However, in December 1991 the Soviet Union fell and is what we know now today as Russia. This is how the Cold War ended.
